Responsible for leading the organization’s safety program, “Safety @ Work”, to ensure a safe, healthy and accident free work environment. Influence attitudes and behaviors by inspiring commitment on the part of all employees to comply with safety standards through cultivating a culture of safety. Manage and establish policies and procedures designed to promote worker health and safety in compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations. Ensure overall compliance in all areas of safety and regulatory compliance (EPA, NFPA, etc.).

 

Responsibilities:

  • Initiates and administers safety policies and assures that adherence is achievable and compliance is robust, applicable, current and adequate.
  • Influences attitudes and behaviors by helping lead engagement and commitment on the part of all employees to comply with safety standards.
  • Works across departments and functions to actively instill and support a safety culture.
  • Investigates accidents, injuries, or occupational diseases to determine their root cause and initiates corrective and or preventative actions as applicable.
  • Helps manage health and safety priorities to ensure appropriate focus of available resources by assessing and prioritizing identified risks.
  • Conduct ergonomic assessments of equipment, workstations, etc. as needed.
  • Facilitates and maintains records for all applicable safety training requirements.
  • Assist in ensuring accurate training and compliance to plant EHS policies and procedures for contractor / vendor personnel.
  • Documents and maintains procedures, processes, instructions, and records that pertain to recommended and required environmental, health, and safety policies and activities.
  • Evaluates plans and specifications for current, new, or modified equipment and machinery to ensure safety regulations such as Job Hazard Analysis and Energy Control procedures are met and established in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Identifies, communicates, and facilitates the installation of engineering controls or other safeguards to processes and equipment.
  • Remains up to date on new and changing regulations and requirements to assure compliance.
  • Assist in workers compensation claim management and return to work programs.
  • Organize and conduct fire and other safety drills, as necessary.
  • Performs routine inspections, ensuring that results are documented.
  • Prioritize time engaged with shop floor employees and supervisors and employees through significant daily time on the production floor.
  • Assures that all managers are informed of PPE needed in their areas and are trained on distribution and maintenance of all equipment. Ongoing oversight and assurance of compliance is required.
  • Directs safety audits, assists in the preparation of reports and interacts with local emergency resources, regulatory agencies, consultants, and vendors.
  • Develops and implements safety incentive initiatives to promote continued awareness and compliance.
  • Consolidates all safety records to ensure visibility, accessibility, and availability, this includes OSHA 300 Logs, annual OSHA 300A documentation, and OSHA inspections notice of corrective actions.

Education & Experience

 Required:

  • 4-year degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental, Chemistry, Industrial, or related field or equivalent experience
  • 2-4 years of safety leadership experience in a manufacturing environment
  • 2-4 years of environmental experience, to include water/air/waste programs
  • Demonstrated experience creating and delivering effective safety training programs.
  • Demonstrated experience/ability to develop and document procedures, processes, systems, reports, and checklists to support safety program.

Desired:

  • OSHA 500 & OSHA 501
  • HazWOPER Certification
  • Demonstrated knowledge of RCRA Regulations and Hazardous Waste Management
  • Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA Standards for both General and Construction Industries
  • LEAN Manufacturing
  • Background in leading on-site emergency response teams
  • First Aid / CPR / AED credentials
  • ISO 14001 Internal & External Audit Experience
