Summary

Under the direction of the Operations Manager, the Value Stream Supervisor / Production Supervisor is responsible overseeing the day to day operations on the production floor in their assigned value stream. The VSS is responsible for ensuring Safety comes first, Quality second, and addressing production issues in a timely manner with a continuous improvement approach to ensure delivery and productivity targets are met.

 

Essential Functions

  • Maintains a high visual profile in the assigned business unit by making frequent personal spot checks to observe departmental activities.

  • Determines if work schedules are being met, supervising necessary adjustments or corrective action to resume and maintain production standards and meet all due dates without sacrificing production quality.

  • Manages production activities so as to optimize machine efficiency and minimize rejections.

  • Coordinates activities with the Master Scheduler regarding workflow in and out of the business unit.

  • Assures that all work completed meets or exceed quality standards and that employees are following inspection procedures. Responds to Corrective Action Requests (CARs) in a complete, accurate, and timely manner.

  • Ensures safe working conditions for all employees and maintains proper housekeeping. Responsible for meeting and improving corporate Safety@Work requirements.

  • Ensures that ERP system records are current and correct for all work orders for their assigned business unit, including material issues, labor reporting, and completions.  Must review and correct all work orders returned from cost accounting.

  • Responsible for Process Improvements to increase efficiency and reduce cost, without sacrificing quality, by using Lean/Six Sigma tools: SMED, 5S, charts, etc.  Reviews and updates process for ISO compliance.

 

  • Is responsible for department timekeeping submission and upkeep.

  • Identifies training needs of associates and implements training where required.  Updates and maintains a cross-training matrix.

 

  • Responsible for on-time delivery and arrears as established by corporate standards.

 

  • Reviews and recommends tooling and equipment purchases for maximum efficiency.

 

  • Makes or recommends supply purchases while adhering to established budgets.

  • Assists Operations Manager and other Value Stream Managers as required

Work Environment

The employee will work both in an office environment and on the production floor. While in the plant the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibrations.  The noise level in the plant work environment can be loud. As directed by the management, this position is required to perform miscellaneous duties to ensure acceptable production and quality standards; insure a safe and healthful workplace; and maintain the facility in a clean and orderly fashion.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms.  The position involves sitting, walking and lifting less than 30 pounds infrequently throughout the day.  When lifting anything the employee feels in beyond their capacity, or anything in excess of 50 pounds, the employee is to request assistance in lifting from another employee.

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time day-shift position, and days of work are Monday through Friday. Hours of shift may vary depending on business needs, but varies between 5:00 am – 3:30 pm.

 

Required Education and Experience

Experience with LEAN manufacturing or 6 Sigma is required.

 

Preferred Education and Experience

Undergraduate degree in Business Management, Supply Chain, or a related degree or a combination of education and work experience equivalence.

CNC Machining experience with 5+ years’ in shop floor/supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment. Plastics Molding supervisor experience.

 

Work Authorization

Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
