Summary of the Role: 

The Polymer Process Engineer is responsible for the Research & Development of methods, processes, tools and systems required for the company’s advancement in polymer offerings.  Defines, develops & documents efficient processing methods, parameters, procedures, and materials.

Tasks and Responsibilities: 

  • Performs complex research and analysis tasks to determine best process design approach.
  • Provide recommendations of the most appropriate and cost-effective manufacturing engineering tools, machines, sub-assemblies and final assemblies to commercialize the product 
  • Investigates manufacturing costs and provides manufacturing process adjustments and improvements.
  • Determines equipment requirements to ensure equipment is compatible with process.
  • Selects new manufacturing processes and may introduce new equipment to existing process.
  • Provides technical assistance to implement manufacturing new technology.
  • Follows existing documentation practices and continuously looks for improvements.
  • Operates under minimal supervision with wide latitude for independent judgment.
  • Demonstrates understanding, support and consistent application of our Vision, Mission and Core Values
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering discipline required.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment operating melt processing equipment required
  • At least 5 years of experience in processes such as injection molding, extrusion, composites, thermoforming, etc.
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs. occasionally

Competencies: 

  • Must have the ability to effectively operate injection molding machines and support equipment.
  • Must have a good knowledge of polymers.
  • Must have ability to work in a team environment with other departments, such as: Materials Testing, Simulation and Product Design.
  • Ability to analyze situations and determine logical and reasonable solutions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbal with team members and all levels of the organization.
  • Must have the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven project and time management skills.
  • Effectively use Microsoft Office Suite
  • Must have a high level of attention to detail and excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of materials and material requirements.
  • Ability to promote continuous improvement priorities while achieving desired results.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve set goals on time.

Travel: 

  • Travel less than 20% domestic and international possible.
