Reporting to the NPI / Isolast Production Engineering, you will be responsible for the day-to-day support for your designated area of responsibility, to support the Production Manager and Production Engineers in the delivery of efficiencies and be an implementer of change, providing essential improvement opportunities by data driven investigation and rational process improvements.

By the creation, training, monitoring, and maintaining of the Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions for your area of responsibility, you will be responsible for ensuring all personnel are working to the latest issues of SOPs, to all the relevant process controls and applying best practice to the manufacturing process.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Support Production Managers and Production Engineering in the introduction of new products and the maintenance of existing production to relevant production controls.
  • Attend daily SQDE meetings in your area of responsibility and complete relevant actions. Assist the Production Manager in achieving the areas Key Performance Indicator (KPIs) targets, i.e., Scrap, OTD, NPI, etc.
  • Continuously monitor and check operator’s equipment / press settings against relevant controls.
  • Identify and create process flow maps for areas of responsibility in order to identify, create, maintain, and deliver training against, Standard Operating Procedures, Work Instructions, Visual Aids and Quality Alerts, etc.
  • Train and assist operators in understanding the maintenance of a safe, clean, and clear working environment
  • Train and assist operators in understanding how to identify poor output in terms of rate and quality, help to resolve shortfalls in knowledge and understanding of parameters, cause and effect, work with the Production Managers to improve the skills in the department.
  • To train and assist operators in the use of in process inspection equipment to check, measure and record all flash conditions, to determine acceptable production condition.
  • Check functionality and assist in the maintenance of Pyrometers.
  • Check material visually, size, weight, and condition, when required test or get material tested, evaluate and action material, i.e., get it replaced, refreshed, reprocessed.
  • Understand and assess equipment / presses use and limitations, liaise with and assist Production Engineering and Maintenance to source, improve performance and maximise equipment capabilities.
  • Train and assist operators in the cleaning, daily checks, correct setting, and safe use of equipment. Alert Maintenance and HSE Officer of any Health & Safety, environmental or equipment service / breakdown issues.
  • Identify any additional training of personnel required, by reviewing activities and continuous monitoring, ensuring compliance to Safe Systems of Work, risk assessments, procedures, and processes.
  • Investigate and propose potential equipment or production layouts and assist in the delivery of, capital projects to improve and enhance the operational capability.
  • Identify poor tooling, correct, or rectify and raise awareness, put in demands for replacements, initiate BILL change to qualify requests.
  • Identify production efficiencies, to provide information and data, put into place corrective actions and efficiency benefits, supporting, and liaising between all departments to implement and embed working solutions.
  • Review amend and sign for changes to green BOM and white MO, ensuring a permanent change is identified and recorded to implement the BILL change.
  • Use 6 Sigma methodology to identify and investigate opportunities to reduce costs of manufacture, improve efficiencies and profitability, manage and be part of continuous improvement and change management projects.

Education and Experience

  • Good General Education
  • Engineering Apprentice trained preferred
  • Trained and experience of process improvements and controls
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar manufacturing environment.

Key Interfaces and stakeholders

  • Liaise with Production and Process Engineering to initiate rework, investigate, trial, and implement initial and or long-term corrective actions and changes.
  • Liaise and support New Product Introduction, to assist in the trialing of sample production and process evaluation.
  • Feedback on issues to Production and Engineering management and implement actions and provisions.
  • Work closely with cross functional teams in all business areas, i.e., Quality, Supply Chain, Process and Product Engineering, etc, in all quality procedures and route cause investigations.
  • Liaising with the Production Manager and Production Engineering in support of other work areas when necessary.
