Trelleborg Marine Systems Australia is an international leader in the design and manufacture of Docking & Mooring products, focused on marine terminals in the Oil & Gas and Bulk Material as well as the Container, Ferry and Cruise industries.

We are currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our Project Engineering Group responsible for:

  • Actioning technical design packages within the Docking and Mooring projects function at Trelleborg Marine and Technology. This includes generating a complete set of client documentation.
  • Coordinating supply activities to ensure the project design is fully tested, detailed and delivered on time and to budget.
  • Ensuring the engineering design of projects is in accordance with relevant local standards, statutory requirements, technical specifications and industry standard methodology.
  • Performing mechanical/structural CAD design and drafting, as well as deliver design and assembly drawings.
  • Working with other specialists and internal company personnel to define product design specifications, develop conceptual and final design solutions, run and coordinate project specific design and supply activities, support existing product offerings, and perform testing/analysis of new and existing products.
  • Designing & drafting equipment to meet project requirements based on Trelleborg Marine Systems and customer requirements as well as relevant standards (IEC, AS, ISO etc.)
  • Assisting in generating Project Specific User Documentation; actioning and lead sourcing of BOM components and assemblies using ERP system (Microsoft Dynamics AX)
  • Co-ordinating and communicating project specific manufacture and test requirements; working with production team to ensure any manufacturing issues are resolved promptly and efficiently
  • Developing test procedures and plans for new and developing designs
  • Carrying out CAD modelling of system architecture or control philosophy for product design and development
  • Checking product assemblies and validate testing of products
  • Gaining and sharing knowledge of AS4100 / OCIMF / AWS and other mechanical and structural standards/practices
  • Assisting with the preparation and population of Installation, Operations and Maintenance documentation
  • Updating design, technical specification and manufacturing documentation for standard products and provide recommendations to marketing/sales/projects team.
  • Carry out key Strategic Initiatives as detailed in the Strategic Plan

To be considered for the position we must see:

  • University Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years working experience in a mechanical design environment with a Design House, Contractor or Vendor.
  • Experience with 3D CAD (Solidworks), AutoCAD, Microsoft Office essential. Experience using Mathcad preferred not essential.
  • Understanding and experience working with AS, ISO or similar standards preferred.
  • Australian or New Zealand citizenship or having a valid visa for working in Australia.

Key skills and Attributes:

  • Understanding of design principles, calculation formulas and manufacturing methods & process'
  • Proficient in MS Excel, AutoCAD and in Solidworks; excellent CAD modelling skills
  • Outstanding problem diagnosis and solving skills; high and appropriate attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written skills in English; excellent interpersonal skills
  • Positive, energetic and self-motivated
  • Experience working within a quality system
